Jamies Story Page10
on December 12, 2011 at 12:01 amThis page has lots of things that I don’t normally use, perspective, backgrounds and gradients. Here’s hoping it looks good though!
In other new if you’re ordering stuff from the Khaos store for Christmas we’re now past the last posting date for International orders, so if you order now it’s probably not going to arrive on time. People in the UK you’ve got until the 20th!

Tab, not sure this uploaded properly – I could only get here from the direct link posted on the forum… and if I hit ‘PREV’ it takes me back to page 9, but there’s no ‘NEXT’ button.
Belay that… ’tis working now!
Ummm you still cant see past pg 9 in the archive, like it says there’s 12 but when you click it it only shows the cover and 9 pages
Hmm, wonder what that’s alle about? :O can’t wait for the next page, awesome job!
I think Alex went home and told his parents what happened and Alex’s mum has obviously come round to investigate it and make sure he is ok. The rest is speculation but I think Jamie’s mum (whose name we know is Jean) will force Jamie to tell Alex’s mum that everything is fine and that nothing happened.
I don’t think it’s Alex’s mom. The last page said ‘why is the murfy kid locked in jamie’s room?’
It might be a neighbor who heard the commotion. Or an aunt or someone who Jamie could actually trust.
I think there was a lapse in time between the last page and this one. I thought the voice at the bottom of the last page was Jamie’s dad finding Alex. Then there’s a lapse of time where he drives him home. Now Alex’s mom is there (because that looks like Alex’s mom to me).
And it looks like the person arriving is still at the front door, so they couldn’t have been the one that found Alex, thus some lapse of time between two different visitors.
Mhmmm I agree. I’m pretty sure thats Alex’s mum. I do love the way ‘Jean’ is raging right from the get go. That would have tipped me off right away that something was wrong.
….and can I just state how much I HATE Jaimes mum?
That’s what I thought too, but it’s a weird jump. Are we missing a page between the one where Jamie’s dad finds out what happened and this one? The site’s been a little wonky…
Can’t wait to see what happens next!!! Tab, it’s been two years I’ve followed, and I finally decided to comment on just how amazing your comics are! Truly! The way I keep coming back to the website every day, half-hoping that maybe you uploaded the new page one day early… ♥ I love the great suspense and symbolic imagery in this story. Damn, I can’t wait for the next one!!!
:’-( jamie looks so scared
:’-) it makes me happy that alex’s mum is such a loving person to check up on jamie. I hope that here are more loving people in this world than I’ve met xx
*hugs*
Oh Tab Kimpton, you fabulous, fabulous man… Never stop drawing, I’ll read every last panel.
I thought Tab was a girl….
It says he’s male on the about section. Also livestreams.
Yep, Tab is a bloke
You should come on the livestream some time, you get the chance to see him!
Last I checked Tab preferred gender neutral pronouns.
No, I’m happy with male pronouns. Where are you getting your information from? I used to be gender neutral on the internet because I didn’t want my own gender to influence people’s view on the stories, but since doing livestreams and conventions I’ve become a lot more public about myself to fans.
At first I was like “she should have” and then I realized. Um… Does it mention anywhere, Jamie’s living conditions? Where DOES he live now? Is he still with his mom and dad? Are they still together? o-o DID someone call child protective services?
If not, someone really should have. Alex’s mom, in this situation, since her son SAW Jamie’s mom slap Jamie. It might not stick, but the families are clearly superenemies now anyway, and there would be a record of it.
I hope someone did.
I’m not sure if slapping your kid around was considered that big a deal then. At least where I lived, in the 80s and early 90s, all the parents seemed to be doing it and as long as the parent wasn’t drunk 24/7 or on some heavy drugs, they’d get to keep their kid as long as they fed them and didn’t sexually abuse them. Luckily things have changed since.
Awesome art evolution.
h’oh boy. Why do I get the feeling this isn’t going to end well? … oh yeah because 10 pages into Jamie’s story and NOTHING has ended well yet. All my crais.
ughhhhhh I don’t want to wait until the next page.
Ahhh I don’t get it!!!!!!!!! :/
I’m trying to make sense of it and I… can’t…
Can’t wait for Thursday! Hopefully there will be some explanation!
What don’t you get?
Great page, Tab. I love the last two panels. I know you hear this all the time, but your art really has improved and continues to get better and better. I’m not really sure what’s confusing people here, I thought it was fairly straight-forward. From the last page, the “Jean?! What the hell is going on?” seems to come from Jamie’s dad who took Alex home. I assume that Alex told his mum and dad about what happened, so here is Alex’s mum checking up on Jamie.
Go Mama Murfs! ^_^
That’s it, I’m calling Alex’s mum “Mama Murfs” from now on. XD
I think we all are! XD
So…that’s Alex’s mom checking in? I hate to dwell on this, but Jamie’s mom really is mentally unstable.
I love Alex´s mom, but I have to say I´m not optimistic. =/ It seems from Alex´s story that his parents never mentioned Jamie to him again, and I can´t see his mother managing to save Jamie and forgetting to tell Alex he could stop worrying about his friend´s well being.
This is all told from the kids’ perspective, and as they are now very young children, it’s not suprising that we don’t know more of the adult world that has progressed during their lifetimes. Parents aren’t likely to share this info with their kids. Mine weren’t, and I wouldn’t worry my kids about things beyond theirs’ or mine own control. Alex’s parents prolly told em nothing of what went down with this, and Jamie most certainly wasn’t kept in the loop. Seeing as Jamie harrassed Alex for so long, I can confidently assume his mom stays in his life and whatever attempts mama Murfs would and could have expended were all for naught.
I’m still reeling about how child abuse continues and goes on, even reported as has been, without any intervention. If only kids were as lucky (and I do say this solemnly) as Jamie in this regard.
I love/hate Jamie’s eyes in the last panel. You’re such a great artist, we can really see the pain and sadness in them. Brava! Also, poor poor Jamie! Does anyone else want to just reach through the computer and huggle the poor baby??
Tab, I enjoyed this page a lot. I thought the perspectives and gradients were both well done. I especially enjoyed the symbolism with Jamie behind the rail – looked like he was behind prison bars. Kudos!

The art in this story has been SO good. Of course, that means most of it makes me want to scramble to the other side of the room…
I dunno why everyones so confused about whos who and whats going on in the panel … I thought I got it, maybe Im wrong, (ref back to Alex’s story)
Jamies dad brought Alex home Alex was mad with Jamies mom for hitting Jamie. He probably told his mom tht Jean hit Jamie, I doubt he would have explained the “game” they were playing since he is only a kid and doesnt really know what was going on, he knows even less abour Jamie being groomed when he was younger, Momma Murfs (love it!!!) went to confront Jean about hitting her kid and NOT about the sexual aspect since she probably isnt aware of the extent of the abuse Jamiesbeen through.
We see in Alexs comic that after this he isnt allowed to play with Jamie again and doesnt see him again till hes in school and meets Steve and Mark, obviously whateve happens between Jean and Mrs Murfs results in Mrs Murfs not letting Murfs go to Jamies house again, we cant say why yet since we havent seen or heard the exchange between Murfs Mom and jean yet.
As for calling CPS … who knows … Im sure if Mrs Murfs knew the fully extent of Jamies abuse, she’d try her best to help him and get him away from his abusive parents, Jamies dad seems alright though … Its kinda unfair to tar both of Jamies parents with the same brush when it seems his mother is the only abusive one, his father seems genuinely nice, albeit distant from Jamie which is a shame, Jamie deserves the support of someone…
As for people saying mean things about Jean, I think you should give her the BOTD, Im not promoting her activities at all (Heavens no!) a mother should never hit a child, period. But take into account she could be mentally ill, have post natal depression (it can last for years, my great aunty had PND for 22 years before she was finally admitted to a hospital, by then it was too late though and she’d totally lost the plot …) anyway, my point is, she is clearly an unfit mother, we will most likely all agree on that, but she may have been an abuse victim herself, or possibly ill. She needs help (her obsession with “cleansing” and religion is a bit … obsessive) she might not be aware of what shes doing to Jamie, she “tried to cleanse him” and wash away his “sin”, so she does care about him, she just has a twisted way of showing it.
It seems that we can’t get here from the archive page, which is how I primarily access the comic via my phone. Odd…
Anyway, the art of this page is lovely in a fucked up way. I’m worried for Jamie, and for Jean. Jean is a blatantly unstable person, and it makes me wonder if you’re ever going to discuss the idea that she’s actually mentally ill, or if she’s just a bad mother. One never knows.
I’m finding myself enjoying Jamie’s story the most, thus far. He has such a varied past, I’m finding it interesting to piece it all together from the boy we’re seeing into the almost-man we know.
The only thing that jars with me is that Jamie’s mum swears at what we are assuming is Alex’s mum. I wouldn’t expect a religious fanatic like Jean to use the ‘f’ word or call someone else a bitch. Other than that, the story’s progressing nicely. Jamie is obviously a very messed up child, and the mess has carried on into his teens. I can’t help feeling that Jamie’s story is based on someone’s real life somewhere. Maybe Tab’s, but not necessarily… I’m pretty sure it’s someone Tab knows though and I want to reach out, hug whoever it is, and tell him or her that it’s all right, really it is.
Hmmm, well seeing how truly christian she is with the hate mongering and child abuse, I’m sure god’s not gonna be too concerned over a few profanities here and there.
I’m not sure I follow what you’re saying. Are you saying that it is christian-like to spread hate and abuse children? if so, that’s blatantly incorrect. If, on the other hand, you mean that she’s dug herself such a deep hole that a few swear words are trivial on top of her other actions, then I agree.
In Jamie’s Mum’s mind what she’s doing is christian, so maybe she allows herself the minor vice of swearing because it’s offset with all the good christian work she thinks she’s doing… Or it’s just a convenient story-writing tool to indicate anger.
The latter, and I was aiming for tongue in cheek anyway (so *blatantly* incorrect would be accurate too). Rest assured I know better than to blanket judge a mass of people based on the actions of one or a few.
Truthfuly I feel her reaction and language reflects her personal tendancies towards hypocricy.
Micha was being ironic/sarcastic (I never know which is which) in her comment. You have to imagine a “- not” after “truly Christian”.
I agree that Jean is misguided, but I’ve known people who share her views and they’re very difficult people to get along with. You might not want to be friends with people like her, but sometimes we have to work alongside such, and it can be far from easy.
Swearing or using profanities doesn’t come naturally to most Christian fundamentalists. It’s just not in their nature to use such language. People like Jean really do consider that they are correct in their attitudes and intolerances, and they really do live their lives that way. Language like that though – no, I don’t think it would be used, even in anger.
It’s a fairly minor niggle, and not really worth arguing over. Tab’s doing a brilliant job painting Jamie’s background. I wish I could say that I’d never known anyone like Jamie’s mum, but unfortunately that would be a lie. I can say, however, that those I have known would never use that sort of language. But – not worth arguing over. The story’s very good in all other respects.
On the other hand, I *have* known people with these attitudes, people who see no hypocracy in being incredibly Christian on one hand and swearing at “those damn gays” or “you stupid bastards” on the other. It might be a Brit thing, it might be a class thing, it might just be that you haven’t met those kind of people.
it’s cerainly not a problem with the realistic-ness of the comic though.
Ironic, in mocking how she justifies cruelty with rhetoric from a faith that would never condone her actions. The sarcasm may be implied, if you feel I was being bitter. I’m certainly not warm and fuzzely with what’s gone down.
Point being, her cursing shouldn’t suprise anyone after witnessing what she just did to her child. If her faith in God doesn’t prevent her from hurting someone, why should it prevent her from swearing? She comes of as unstable and explosive in her reactions, the language fits as far as I can see.
HA! Nosy Bitch
jamie in the last panel is breaking my heart.
but go mama murfs!
wut wut wut wut wut!?!?!?!?!?!
I don’t think they are going to take JAmie away form his mother but if they did I’m sure Jamie would think they are taking him away from the only people who love him and that it’s all Murfs fault so he would hate on him. That’s the evil manipulation of abusers. It’s simply so sad.
