Dear readers of Khaos,
I’d like to address some of the comments I’ve been receiving recently in response to Jamie’s story page 83.
The stereotype of trans women being predators is one I had not heard of until it was mentioned in the comments a couple of days ago. The editing team behind Khaos composes of about 5 people, 3 of which identify of somewhere on the trans spectrum. Together we missed that one, and now I realise the connotations of what the page implies to some people, I am truly sorry.
Trans women and their allies have a right to be angry with me on this one, and I am ashamed of some of my fans who have suggested otherwise. The stereotype of trans women as sexual predators definitely exists, and I don’t think it’s helpful to deny that. Trans women get raped and murdered because of that kind of stereotype, it’s not something I wanted to perpetuate.
Unfortunately, without the context of the rest of the story, this page looks pretty bad, and I can definitely understand why people are upset. That’s kind of the nature of a webcomic, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that I should have seen this coming.
I had previous opportunities to explore the topic of rape and coercive sex in Mark and Steve’s stories, but I wasn’t mature enough as a writer or educated enough to make that call.
I’d like to ask people to reserve their judgements until I’ve finished the story. I understand if I’ve upset people too much and they wish to leave. Thank you for all you have read and I hope it has given you something to think about in your time here.
For those of you who are staying, it’s not much longer and please feel free to call me out on any of my shit if something new comes up.
Until the end-
